How does therapy with Jeanette work

Initial Phone Consultation– 15 minutes, free

I believe it’s important for us to get a sense of each other. During this 15-minute consultation, we will briefly discuss what is bringing you to therapy and what you hope to get out. If we decide that I might be a good fit for your needs, we will go ahead and schedule two initial assessment sessions. If we agree that your needs might be better served by someone else, I will happily refer you to one of my colleagues in the therapist community.

Initial Assessment – two 50 minutes sessions, $125 each

Our first few sessions are important for me to learn more about you, who you are, where you come from, and how you see yourself. At our first two appointments, we will go over in detail your current symptoms, past mental health history, family of origin, and your social supports and situation. At the end of the initial assessment, I will share with you my initial impression(-s) and my sense of what I think we’ll need to explore, with the understanding that these might be refined and evolve over time.

    On-going Therapy – 50 minutes, $100-150 per session

Once we mutually decide that we are a good fit, we will meet regularly.

Here, we’ll slow down and help you begin to connect to the places where change happens. Developing mindfulness, noticing what it’s like to be with your internal experience without trying to change it, is an important first step. I may invite you to be aware of thoughts, body sensations, images, memories, or feelings that arise as you’re talking.

We’ll get curious about the ways your nervous system responds to overwhelming situations and tries to protect you, the ways you continue to become activated to fight, flight, or freeze, and the behaviors that help you cope. We’ll work to develop internal resources – a place to land in yourself – that can help you heal and release the impact of trauma or difficult experiences.

We’ll explore the self-limiting beliefs that may have developed into an identity and their costs in your life now. At your own pace, we’ll work to create moments in our sessions where you can actually take in a different experience. As you begin to truly internalize new beliefs about yourself, shifts tend to happen in your life.
