Reimagine Sobriety

A non-AA approach to managing cravings, building new skills, and creating a fulfilling life.

For the courageous souls who want not just to survive, but thrive in sobriety.

Searching for a non-AA approach?

You are in the right space!

Once a decade-long daily drinker, now a psychotherapist, and sober wellness guide, I learned very early on that AA is not a one-size-fits-all solution for everyone. That’s why I put together this space for folks who are looking for a non-AA approach to find freedom, discover happiness, and create a better life.

How is this approach different?

1

Belief

Rewire your beliefs to find freedom

Traditional Approach- Behavioral Focus

Most methods focus on changing your drinking habits by solely targeting alcohol consumption.

-VS -

This Approach - Cognitive Focus

Here, we take a different route by addressing the beliefs that create the temptation to drink and weaken your desires to drink at their source.

2

Alignment

Align your goals to discover happiness

Traditional Approach- Behavioral Goal

Most methods set goals and measure success with behavioral goals that centers only around one’s alcohol consumption/abstinence.

-VS -

This Approach - Emotional Goal

Here, we acknowledge the importance of sobriety, and at the same time, we set goals and measure success with the thing that matters the most - your happiness.

3

Skill

Hone your skills to reinvent a better life

Traditional Approach- Higher Power

Traditional methods often ask you to surrender your power and admit your powerlessness.

-VS -

This Approach - Skills Development

Here, we celebrate your power and believe that, with the right tools, you have the power to create a life that you are excited to show up to sober and with your full presence.

Rewire Your Beliefs

A new way to break free from craving and find freedom

Temptation comes from perceived benefits

Perceived benefits create temptation, and temptation drives desire (craving), which leads to behavior (or urge).

Examples:

  • Perceived Benefit: “Alcohol makes me happy.”

    • Temptation: "I want to have a drink to feel happy."

  • Perceived Benefit: “Alcohol helps me sleep better.”

    • Temptation: "I want a nightcap before bed."

  • Perceived Benefit: “Moderate wine consumption is good for the heart.”

    • Temptation: "I want a glass of wine for its heart benefits."

The good news:

Perceived benefits are beliefs, and beliefs aren’t the same as reality. Reality is complex, and our beliefs can change when we look at things from a different angle.

When there is no perceived benefit, there is no temptation

When you change your beliefs, you change the temptation. If you no longer see a benefit, the temptation fades away.

Imagine a world where your beliefs are different:

  • If you believe “Alcohol negatively affects my mood and makes me less happy.”

    • Will you still be tempted to drink to feel happy?

  • If you believe “Alcohol disrupts my sleep and leaves me sleep deprived.”

    • Will you still be tempted to have a nightcap for better sleep?

  • If you believe “Any amount of alcohol is harmful to my heart,”

    • will you still feel like you’re missing out on the heart benefit when you skip a glass of wine?

The good news:

By shifting these underlying beliefs, you can reduce or eliminate the desire to drink, making it easier to maintain sobriety without constant struggle.

    FAQs

    • The live groups will be held at 5 PM PT on the 1st and 3rd Monday of each month. Very occasionally, when an unforeseeable event arises, I may reschedule the group.

    • I hope you’ll do everything you can to be there live for each group, as people find tremendous value in these live experiences. But if you can’t make it, please don’t worry about FOMO. All the essential content covered in the groups will be available through pre-recorded videos inside the Sober Curiosity Lab.

    • Assuming that you attend the group calls and work through the pre-recorded lessons at your own pace, you can start to experience a mindset shift during your first month of membership.

    • At this point, it’s difficult to predict how quickly this community will grow. If you join as a founding member, you may find yourself in calls with a very small group size - and that’s a perk, as you will receive more individual attention and support from me.

    • You will have direct access to me twice a month during the live group calls. Outside of these calls, I am available to assist with billing or platform access questions. Unfortunately, I won’t be able to provide individual support beyond this capacity.

    • You can cancel your membership at any time, no questions asked. Simply send an email to joinsobercuriosity@gmail.com, and I’ll take care of it for you.

    • No, this membership is an educational support group. Although I am a therapist and these groups can be therapeutic, this membership is NOT a substitute for professional mental health services.

    • Send them to joinsobercuriosity@gmail.com, and I will make sure to answer any questions you have. :)

What if it’s not for you? Then I won't keep your money.

    TRY IT FOR 7 DAYS

GET YOUR MONEY BACK IF YOU DON’T LIKE IT.

Don’t let fear hold you back. I want to give you every opportunity to change your relationship with alcohol. That's why I've made this a risk-free investment for you.

You have 7 days to go through the first 5 lessons—watch all the videos and complete the workbook. If you have put in the work and decide this approach is not for you, I’ll refund your money. Simple as that.

A Case Study —Words from D

“My AHA moment was realizing why so many other methods, such as A.A., treatment centers, or church attendance, have not worked…”

⬆️ That was what D wrote when I asked him what his biggest AHA moment was during his time in the Sober Curiosity Lab. ⬆️

I met D in April 2023; he was one of the five founding members of my online course, Sober Curiosity Lab.

For 3 months, I worked closely with D. Besides his hard-working spirit and resilience, here are a few things that he gave me permission to share with you:

D was a daily drinker who has suffered from severe mental illness in the past. Having tried different approaches to regain control of alcohol, D told me that he has found a glimpse of hope from the “sensible, logical, and reasonable approach” that Sober Curiosity has to offer.

    Here is what D did:

#1. He followed the roadmap inside the Sober Curiosity Lab.

#2. He showed up for our calls whenever he could throughout our work.

By the end of our work together with the 12-week course, D wrote this to me:

“Although the difference I've felt or seen may still be in the future, I am positive I now have the right tools to work with to make that future bright. I only say this because I need time to review everything I have been learning, put it all together, take time to do the work…”

He continued, and the last line of his words moistened my eyes and left a lump in my throat:

“A big thank you for making sobriety an actual possibility in my life where anything else I have tried in the past has failed.”

It was my biggest ambition when I created Sober Curiosity Lab - to bring hope to people who have tried other methods but failed - to help them see it was NOT their fault that what they tried didn’t work.

And with his hard work and perseverance, D showed me that together we could make it happen. I am deeply grateful for the trust D placed in me for becoming a founding member and allowing me the privilege to support him.

Would you allow me to be part of your journey too?

The Sober Curious Society is not for you if...

You have a strong physical addiction to alcohol, and find yourself becoming physically ill or suffer from intense withdrawal symptoms whenever you cut back or abstain -- such as delirium tremens or hallucinations.

If this is you and you are truly physically addicted to alcohol, the support here may help with your emotional and psychological addiction by adjusting your perspective and your relationship with alcohol, helping to weaken your desires to drink, but is NOT a supplement for medical advice or mental health treatment or diagnosis.

If you are physically addicted, please consult your doctor to receive medical assistance through the detoxification process. Your health is critical to your success!
